Origin Story

Not everybody has an easy start in life – births, family history, foster placements, adoption…all of these can be complicated processes resulting in emotional complexities.

Introduce a child gently to their ‘Origin Story.’ This could be a delicately-crafted story or rhyming poem that you read to them as a bedtime story each night so that they grow up fundamentally knowing – and taking proud ownership – of their story; of where they came from and of how they came to be. This could be a letter from you, as their new guardian, reassuring them of your promise to take care of them and to be a constant reliable presence in their future.

Perhaps you are coming at it from another angle – you’re an adult meeting newly-discovered family members for the first time and you’d like to condense your life story into a letter, poem or speech, for them to grasp an understanding of your history, experiences and of the person you are.
